Angoulême, the comic strip capital of the world
Prefecture of Charente, 43,000 inhabitants strong, the city of Angoulême is renowned the world over for its comic strip festival which, since 1974, has taken place in January every year.
Over the years, the city of Angoulême has forged close links with this form of expression. It houses the Comic Strip Museum and the International City of Comics and Images. This complex brings together an author's house, a museum and a large center, housed in a metal and glass building built by the architect Roland Castro. Comic book designers have also taken over the city walls: Boule and Bill are swinging on the gable of a house, on another wall, Max Cabanes painted a trompe l'oeil titled "the daughter of the ramparts" ... Walkers will discover these frescoes as they stroll.
Angoulême, a city where life is good
The city of Angoulême also offers visitors charming pedestrian streets, a Romanesque cathedral, classified as a historic monument since 1840, several interesting churches and Le jardin vert, a 4 hectare park, created in 1860, which houses, under the ramparts of the city, rare species.
