Royan, town of town planning and architecture

Les Bains de mer de Royan acquired their reputation under the Second Empire. During the Roaring Twenties, the city of Royan welcomed many artists who left, in memory of their passage, astonishing villas with fanciful architecture. After the bombings of 1945, the urban fabric of Royan was completely redesigned and rebuilt, favoring great perspectives. Today, with its seafront porticoes, the Notre-Dame church, a technical and aesthetic achievement, the covered parachute-like market, Royan appears to be a living museum of 1950s architecture and town planning.

The Zoo La Palmyre
