Advice from your Europcar Atlantique agency
Nantes City Center, High place of Nantes cultural life
The Cité des Congrès district of Nantes, also called the Champ-de-Mars district, is located near the SNCF train station, the Château des Ducs de Bretagne and the city center. It is the scene of numerous cultural and professional events.
On the banks of the Canal Saint-Félix, the La Cité Nantes Events Center convention center hosts more than 300 events of regional, national or international scope every year: seminars, conventions or trade fairs including Eurocities, the World Forum of Human Rights or the Congress of Notaries of France, but also many shows, concerts and festivals.
Recurring cultural events include the international science fiction festival Les Utopiales, which combines exhibitions, scientific and literary meetings, comics and film screenings.
La Folle Journée festival, which takes place at the Cité des Congrès at the start of the year, is also a benchmark. It welcomes an average of 120,000 visitors per edition, making it the most important classical music festival in France. Dedicated to a composer or to a period in the history of music, the Folle Journée is a popular gathering but conceived on demanding artistic bases.
From industrial wasteland to cultural hub
The former Lefèvre-Utile biscuit factory, easily recognizable by the LU Tower and its Art Nouveau style, is also an important place in Nantes' cultural life. Called Le Lieu Unique, the place is home to a national stage, an exhibition and performance space, as well as a café / bar / club, a restaurant, a bookstore, a hammam and a nursery.
Its credo: to be a space of artistic exploration, cultural bubbling and conviviality that mixes cultures, audiences and different fields of art: plastic arts, theater, dance, circus, music but also literature, philosophy, architecture and taste arts.
