Parthenay, a thousand-year-old city

Located between Thouars and Niort, south of Poitou, with a population of around 10,000 inhabitants, the town of Parthenay celebrated its millennium in 2012. The city developed around a citadel installed on a rocky outcrop in a loop of the Thouet. Parthenay was an important medieval city.
